How I Stay Consistent Online
The secret to my consistency isn’t discipline
I’ve been building my brand since 2019.
In November that year, I decided to start a
YouTube channel. I was completely clueless about what it would take or the demand it would place on me. I just knew it was time to start - so I did.
This was my first video. Don’t you dare laugh.
From there, YouTube expanded to Instagram as the gurus said I needed to “repurpose content.” So I learned short-form video. I experimented, I tested, I failed publicly - but I stayed. In 2020, I started offering the skills I had picked up as services to small business owners.
Fast forward to today:
I’ve published my first book (That Internet Thing You’re Doing), released almost 90 episodes of She’s The Brand podcast, built a growing community with Enterprise and Heels, and launched Afrocreate Digital — my personal branding agency helping ambitious women become visible and profitable online. I’m also speaking more, creating more, and dreaming bigger than ever.
But I didn’t come here to give you a list of accomplishments.
I came to give you proof.
Proof of what happens when you just keep showing up.
Proof that consistency compounds, quietly and powerfully.
Proof that you cannot fail if you do not stop.
So, how do I stay consistent?
It’s not because I’m superhuman.
It’s because I made a decision: I will rest, but I will never stop.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
1. I always get back in the game.
There are seasons I’ve disappeared - out of energy, inspiration, or faith. But I’ve learned that the magic isn’t in never falling off; it’s in always returning. Every time I get back up, I find something new in me that I didn’t know existed.
2. I keep the image of the life I want in front of me.
A life of creativity, legacy, and freedom. I want that.
And I understand that I cannot want more without being willing to give more. So I keep showing up for the version of me that’s already living that life.
3. I plan ahead when I can.
Today I created 30 short-form videos. Yesterday, I could barely create one. That’s the thing about energy - when it comes, I steward it well. I create as much as I can when I have capacity because I know there will be days when I don’t.
4. I repurpose when I can’t create.
If I can’t show up fresh, I show up wise. I take something I’ve already shared - a caption, a podcast clip, a quote - and give it new life. That’s what I teach in The Big Yes course: how to make your brilliance work for you.
5. I allow myself to do the barest minimum when necessary.
Doing your best doesn’t look the same every day and that’s okay. Some days, your best is a podcast episode, a client call, or a new piece of content. Other days, it’s rest, journaling, or praying for strength to try again tomorrow.
Consistency isn’t never stopping.
It’s never staying stopped.
And if there’s one thing I’ve learned since 2019, it’s that the people who win are not the most talented or the most connected, they’re the ones who keep going, quietly, faithfully, even when no one’s clapping.
So if you’re tired, take a break.
If you’re confused, pause and pray, or book a call with me.
But please, don’t quit.
Your future self will thank you for not giving up when it was hard.
